BRIEF HISTORY OF PORTRAIT OF BEYOND
The Beginning
There were persons who knew each other. There were visions which were meant to become History. There were rebellious attitudes. Minds of five individuals. Ambitions in the musical field. There was a unification. And there was light. There was music. This did happen under autumn skies in the year of 1997. Was this a Universal Destiny, or the beginning of a Journey towards Obscure Passages? Ultimately the humanthinkinmachines will find it out.
The Music
Music, at first, poured forth from the diverse streams of involved members' collective consciousness. These streams then unified and later evolved to create a unique blend of Metal, Progressive Rock, Electronic Music and even Jazz. It may not be the easiest (but not by far the hardest!) kind of music to listen to or understand, but this is the point exactly: We are targeting the unprejudiced listener who is not afraid of what we represent. Our leading idea is to blend it all: Black to White, Science to Art, Styles to one another, Matter to Vacuum, Mind to the surrounding World. We try to be an all-binding experience. A unique and interesting psychoacoustic event for the mind.
Foundation of all
A small musical experiment happened to have a longer term consequence, namely Portrait of Beyond. At first the thing was simply called 'the project' as all members were playing in other bands and this part-time 'project' was a recreational hobby, a gateway for everyone to make music without limitations of any kind, totally devoid of band formats or narrowly defined styles. Of course, the result of this was at first very 'heavy' and perhaps a little 'black'. Evolution began, though, in the middle of the making of Universal Destiny. Two songs, Path and Cosmos, represent the initial situation. Trapped to Be and Roulette of Worlds were the first step towards what was to follow. We ourselves would like to think that our music consists of fairly simple ideas that are woven into a series of patterns, one more complex than the other. This is also one of main principles when we are writing our lyrics. They are about the patterns found in nature, cosmos and the mind itself.
